Woman Stalked in Garage
Crime Scene Tape

We all have smoke detectors and practice fire safety in our homes. However, according to recent data from the FBI Uniform Crime Report and the U.S. Fire Administration, Americans are more than 70 times as likely to be assaulted than be injured in a residential fire. How do you protect yourself and your family at home and away?

At American Personal and Family Safety LLC™ our family can teach you and your family how to be Safe at home and away. Every day™.

Our certified instructors offer firearm safety training including United States Concealed Carry Association (USCCA) and National Rifle Association (NRA) courses of study.

Group Training

We offer two nationally recognized firearm safety training curriculums. One is the USCCA Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals course of study, which is taught by a USCCA Certified Instructor. This course consists of 7 hours of classroom time which includes lecture, demonstrations and interactive participation followed by a 1 hour live fire session at the range with the instructor and a Certified Safety Range Officer. The other is the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course of study, which is taught by an NRA Certified Instructor. This course also consists of 7 hours of classroom time and a 1 hour live fire session at the range with the instructor and a Certified Safety Range Officer.

Both courses include an overview of Connecticut law taught by an attorney. Both curriculums have Connecticut specific content approved by the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP). Either the USCCA or NRA course certificate is needed to apply for a Connecticut permit to carry a concealed pistol or revolver ("CT carry permit"). While you need to be 21 years of age or older to apply for a CT carry permit, you do not need to be 21 to take our classes. However, the DESPP now only accepts certificates dated within two years of your CT carry permit application.

Classes currently being offered can be found on our USCCA Instructor page by clicking here.

Individual Training

Our private one-on-one individual training can be custom tailored to meet your unique needs, matching your experience level as well as your physical abilities and any limitations you might have with practical and effective personal and family safety techniques.

While firearms can be effective tools, we recognize they may not be right for everyone's unique personal, family or home circumstances. If you fall into that category for whatever reason, there are viable and effective defensive alternatives to help keep you and your family safe.

Complimentary Firearm Safety Programs for Children

Firearm laws in Connecticut are some of the most restrictive in the nation. As a lawful and responsible firearm owner you invested in safety training, you committed to practicing safe firearm handling and you diligently follow the law, including Connecticut's new comprehensive firearm storage law. But guess what? Unlawful or irresponsible firearm owners are not likely to follow the law at home or away. Discarded firearms left by criminals have been found by children in public parks and playgrounds.

At American Personal and Family Safety LLC™ we firmly believe all children benefit from simple firearm safety instruction. Firearm safety should be taught in our homes and schools as often as "stop, drop, and roll" is for fire safety, with frequent reminders.

Our firearm safety program for children pre-k through fourth grade is offered free of charge annually for the children, stepchildren or grandchildren of any former student of one of our USCCA or NRA courses of study. The program features the NRA's Eddie Eagle GunSafe® program. It's simple. Children are taught if they ever come across an unattended firearm in public or in someone's home they: Stop! Don't touch. Run away. Tell a grown-up.

To learn more about the NRA's Eddie Eagle GunSafe® program and to watch an 8 minute cartoon video designed to be watched with your own children, click here. Thanks to the NRA, over 32 million children have been taught how to stay safe if they ever find a firearm.

This is our way of saying "thank you" for trusting our family with your firearm training needs.

TESTIMONIALS

Both instructors taught me and my 17 year old son to safely handle and shoot firearms ranging from .22 caliber pistols up to 12 gauge shotguns.  Neither one of us had ever even held a firearm prior.  We had recently inherited firearms and my son wanted to learn how to safely handle and shoot them.  We were not "gun people."  It was a surprisingly enjoyable experience.  We are no longer afraid of firearms now that we know how to safely handle and operate them.

JA, Coventry CT

The instructor took me to the range for a personal lesson and quickly identified and corrected some concerns with my shooting style and had me shooting my Sig 9mm handgun better than I ever have before in a matter of minutes.  While I served in the US Army and qualified with a long gun before going to the Middle East, since I was not an officer the Army never taught me how to properly shoot a handgun.
